5 Cornhole Mistakes Holding You Back

The five most common mistakes amateurs make, and the simple fixes for each.

Most amateurs aren't missing because they lack talent, they're repeating a few fixable mistakes. Clean these five up and your scores jump.

1. A setup that changes every throw

If your feet, stance, and starting position move around, your bags will too. Build a pre-throw routine, same spot, same stance, same setup, and run it every time. Consistency starts before the swing.

2. Going for the hole on every bag

The hole isn't always the right play. Sometimes a block, a push, or a flat bag on the board is the smarter shot. Read the board and throw what the situation calls for, not the highlight every time.

3. No follow-through

Stopping your hand at release is one of the most common flaws. Let your throwing hand finish toward the target, fingers pointing at the hole. A full follow-through keeps your release consistent and your bags on line.

4. Squeezing the bag to death

A tight grip tenses your whole arm and rushes the release. Hold the bag just firmly enough that it won't slip, and keep your wrist relaxed. Loose hands throw smoother bags.

5. Skipping the boring reps

Everyone wants to learn the airmail, but games are won by players who can land a flat bag and throw a block on demand. Spend most of your practice on the fundamentals and the flashy shots come easier. Fix these one at a time, and find a bag that fits your throw.
