Cornhole Board Dimensions & Court Setup

Official board size, hole dimensions, and the exact distance to set your boards apart.

Whether you're building boards or just setting them up in the yard, getting the dimensions right matters, practicing on a regulation setup is the only way your game translates to tournaments. Here are the official numbers.

The board

A regulation cornhole board is 2 feet by 4 feet (24" × 48"). The hole is 6 inches in diameter, centered left-to-right, with its center 9 inches down from the top edge. That places the hole 12 inches from each side.

The height (the ramp)

Boards aren't flat, they're raised at the back to create the ramp the game is built around. The back edge sits 12 inches off the ground; the front edge sits about 3 to 4 inches up. That incline is what lets a flat bag slide and a roll bag crawl toward the hole.

The distance

For adult regulation play, set the boards 27 feet apart, front edge to front edge. That's the distance the pros throw and the one worth practicing on. For kids, seniors, or casual games, move them closer, anywhere from 12 to 21 feet keeps it fun and makes the hole reachable.

The court layout

Each board has a pitching box on either side, the lane you throw from. In doubles, one player from each team stands at every board and pitches from their own side; in singles, both players throw from the same board. Keep both boards square and facing each other, and make sure they sit solid, nothing's worse than a board that shifts mid-game.

The foul line

Your foul line is the front edge of the board, release the bag before your foot passes it. Set both boards square and facing each other, and you've got a regulation court. Next, sort out your boards and bags, or jump straight to the throw.
